Rainbow Cake Balls
The news of cake pops hitting the market spread like wildfire causing much disturbance within the white girl community. Starbucks lovers everywhere dropped their precious frappuccinos and ran to their local bakeries to purchase these little balls of deliciousness. Thus, I am here to exploit the cake pop indulgence and bring to you all… the RAINBOW cake balls. Yes, I made them rainbow because I, too, am a victim of the white girl disease.
• 1 Can of Whipped Vanilla Frosting
• 1 Box of Vanilla Cake Mix (you may use white cake as well)
• All Ingredients Necessary for Cake Mix (listed on the box)
• Food Coloring (dye)
• Desired chocolate morsels (for outer coating)
• A bowl (duh)
• A Cupcake Baking Sheet
• Cupcake Paper Cups
1. Making the Cake
Follow the Instructions on the cake mix box as to how the cake should be made. You will need water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Make sure to preheat your oven to instructed time beforehand. Once cake mix is blended to a creamy texture (make sure no lumps are present), pour equally into 5 individual bowls.
2. Adding the Food Coloring
The “rainbow” coloring consists of red, orange, yellow, green and blue. Although I added purple as well. Add 3 drops (or until desired color) into each separate bowl. Mix well. Once blended, add each colored batter into separate cupcake holders. DO NOT MIX COLORS. Once all colors are in their cupcake holders, place in over for directed time. When they are finished, allow them to cool. While they are in the oven, melt your chocolate morsels either in the microwave or on the stove until a soft liquidy texture is formed.
3. Adding the Frosting
Once the cupcakes have cooled, place each individual colored cupcake into a separate bowl. Crush the cupcakes until completely pulled apart. Begin adding the frosting teaspoon by teaspoon, you do not want to put too much or the cake balls will be too difficult to form. Once each color is formed into a pliable texture, you can begin forming your cake balls.
4. Forming the Cake Balls
To create the perfect rainbow look, start with red and add orange on top and so on. Then roll into a ball. Place each ball into the chocolate sauce until fully emerged and then place the ball onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Once all balls are created, put the tray into the refrigerator to cool.
