let’s make something Naughty

Gnocchi Mac n' Cheese

make me

Ingredients

Serving Size: 4 people

For the Garlic Butter Bread Bowl:

  • 2 small sourdough or boule bread loaves

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Gnocchi Mac & Cheese:

  • 1 lb potato gnocchi (fresh or store-bought)

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for a subtle kick)

  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup shredded Gruyère (or more cheddar)

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

For Topping:

  • 1 large ball burrata

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread Bowl:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Slice off the top of each bread loaf and hollow out the center, leaving about a ½-inch thick wall. (Save the bread for dipping!)

  3. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt.

  4. Brush the inside and edges of the bread bowl generously with the garlic butter. Sprinkle Parmesan inside if using.

  5. Place the bread bowls on a baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

2. Make the Gnocchi Mac & Cheese:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi according to package instructions (usually 2–3 minutes until they float). Drain and set aside.

  2. In a large saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, ensuring no lumps. Simmer until slightly thickened (about 3 minutes).

  4. Stir in Dijon mustard and smoked paprika (if using).

  5. Lower the heat and add shredded cheddar, Gruyère, and Parmesan, stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper.

  6. Add the cooked gnocchi to the cheese sauce and stir to coat.

  7. Add shredded ball of burrata and allow to melt on top

  8. Spoon the cheesy gnocchi into the garlic butter bread bowls.

  9. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley and serve immediately!

If comfort food had a VIP section, this dish would be front and center. Imagine pillowy gnocchi swimming in the creamiest, dreamiest cheese sauce, all tucked inside a crispy, golden bread bowl slathered in garlic butter. It’s rich, indulgent, and downright dangerous (in the best way possible).
This isn’t just mac and cheese—it’s mac and cheese leveled up. Whether you're serving it for a cozy dinner, a fun party dish, or just because you deserve something ridiculously good, this recipe will have everyone scraping their bowls clean.
